Haribo sweets were founded by Hans Riegel Sr. in the 1920's. The company was handed down to Hans Riegel Jr. shortly after WWII. Hans Jr. stayed the head of the company until his death at 90 years old.
The Haribo Gold Bears have a completely different recipe in the US, next time you visit, grab a bag! Originally, all Gold-Bears had a frown imprinted onto them - it wasn’t until 2007 that Haribo decided to change it and put a smile on their faces instead.
Hans Jr. didn’t believe in advertising agencies, and wrote the slogan 'Kids and grown-ups love it so -- the happy world of Haribo' and all the TV commercials himself.
